Royal Trinity Centre: Death, Dying and Life
BACKGROUND
Royal Trinity Hospice provides end of life care to individuals and support for families in central and South West London community. They deliver various services such as care at home, day services and outpatient activities. However, how people perceive hospices is mostly about the last-moment care. In 2o16, Royal Trinity Hospice will open a new centre in North Bank to extend their reach in North London. We see an opportunity to develop a holistic service for patients, carers and healthcare professionals by rethinking the concept of both living and dying, and encouraging users to engage with Trinity's services at an earlier stage.
KEY FINDINGS
01. Hospice is not just a place for people to die.
02. People find it difficult to navigate themselves among different palliative care services.
03. When people start sorting out their personal effects, its often too late.
04. There are not enough interest-based services to maintain their quality of life.
ROYAL TRINITY ONLINE CENTRE
Redesign the end-of-life experience: to improve the quality of life of people who are living with life-limiting illness through physical and virtual interaction.
We suggest that the Royal Trinity Hospice offer holistic life consultation. The platform can help nurses to consult with patients who need to be directed along clear pathways and to enjoy the rest of their life. The bespoke online navigation platform for palliative care professionals, patients and families provide personal effects arrangement, pure enjoyment recommendation as well as healthcare navigation.
01. Healthcare navigation
There are a number of different organisations and resources within palliative care such as maggie centre, Marie Curie, and Macmillan. People find it difficult to navigate themselves through different support and to understand what benefits they are entitled to. During the first assessment, a hospice nurse opens an account for a patient on the "Royal Trinity Online Centre". This online platform helps nurses deliver tailored services to signpost patients to find right services at the right time.
02. Personal effects arrangement
Planning ahead can help patients to arrange their personal effects beforehand. It could save their loved ones from making difficult decisions on their own later. The design includes templates and to do lists for different topics online, so patients can easily fill in the contents and update them whenever they want. They can also easily pass this on to their relatives.
03. Pure enjoyment recommendation
For the physical interaction, Royal Trinity Centre is the place where several healthcare and well-being businesses can join to provide patients and families with different products and services. For example, organic food startups, travel agencies to support interest-based services.Through these interactions, patients can enjoy various services.
